[Midden-Oosten] Israeli Apartheidweek - Activiteiten Groningen 18 - 20 maart

Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) is a global annual event which seeks to raise awareness about the Apartheid character of Israel and build support for the growing Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, demanding an end to Israeli violations of Palestinian rights and international law.
IAW takes place each year around 21 March - the UN declared International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, commemorating the 1960 Sharpeville massacre during the height of South African Apartheid.
Last year events took place in more than 200 cities across five continents.
This year IAW will be held from 16 - 21 March - coinciding with the Dutch annual week against racism - for the 15th consecutive year.
Each year IAW has a different theme; this year’s theme: United Against Racism highlights the fact that the Palestinian struggle against Israeli oppression and Apartheid is embedded in the wider struggle against (institutionalized) racism and oppression worldwide.

>From 18 - 20 March Decolonize Groningen will present a three-day program of public events and workshop.

Within the context of this year’s IAW theme: United Against Racism, it is crucial to understand the colonial roots from which racial oppression stems and the interconnectivity of the struggles of peoples fighting racism around the globe - among them indigenous peoples resisting foreign domination.
Given the settler-colonial character of the Zionist project in Palestine, and the Apartheid regime of institutionalized racism created by Israel in order to maintain its rule over the indigenous Palestinian population, the struggle for the restoration of Palestinian rights must be addressed from a decolonial perspective.
However, the struggle for Palestinian rights does not stand alone, but is part of the broader global struggle for a world based on freedom, justice and equality for all.
